Variety – “All That” was the show that kept on giving to Nickelodeon over the course of a decade in the 1990s and 2000s. Now the company’s president thinks a revival of the sketch-comedy series could be all that — and more.
Nickelodeon will revive the program — a “Saturday Night Live” for the tween set — with an all-new cast. But the show will have callbacks to its past as well. Kenan Thompson, the long-running “SNL” cast member who got his start on television when “All That” launched in 1994, will serve as an executive producer. Nickelodeon expects some former cast members to make appearances in the series.
This is ALLLLLL THATTTTTTTTTTTTT.
Huge news for 8-year-old Dan. All That is coming back to Nickelodeon. All That was essentially Saturday Night Live for kids. It was my first introduction into sketch comedy. Nickelodeon used to have a murderers row of television shows on SNICK aka Saturday Night Nick. It used to be cool to stay home on Saturday nights. Go to the movies with friends? Go out to dinner with my parents? Hard pass to both. Saturdays used to be the day where my parents would pick me up Burger King at 6:30 PM in order to have enough time to settle in before SNICK started at 8. The staples in the SNICK lineup were Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Kenan & Kel, Rugrats (for the kids), and All That.
My mind is racing with famous All That sketches. Off the top of my head, here were my favorites.
Vital Information with Lori Beth Denberg was All That’s version of the Weekend Update on SNL. I’m confident that Lori Beth inspired Amanda Bynes and her form of comedy.
Everyday French with Pierre Escargot. Kenan made the yellow raincoat cool to wear.
Superdude. Superdude could do anything except drink milk because he’s lactose intolerant. So stupid and yet such a classic.
Of course, for me, the best sketch always started with “Welcome to the Good Burger, home of the Good burger, can I take your order?”
I’m hoping the old gang of Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg, Josh Server, Danny Tamberelli, and Amanda Bynes decide to do an all-old-school episode. No matter what, today is a good day. All That is back.
