It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of The Fast the Furious franchise. It’s one of my favorite franchises of all-time. What’s not to love about these movies? “They’re not realistic” is what I usually hear from the haters. Uhhhh ya think?
I’m not watching Fast and Furious movies for award-winning dialogue and critical thematic analysis. I watch these movies because they are a damn good time. Car chases, unrealistic action sequences, and gigantic explosions keep me coming back. When I first heard that the series was electing to create a spinoff, I, like Tyrese, was nervous. There was clear tension between The Rock and Vin Diesel during the filming of The Fate of the Furious and it seems as if Vin, Tyrese, and other original stars were worried that a spinoff would ruin the “family” and push back Fast Nine. Well, the spinoff did push Fast Nine back to 2020 and the family still has issues.
However, there’s no denying that The Rock helped reignite this franchise. After Tokyo Drift, the franchise was in trouble. Fast 4 was a step in the right direction, but Fast Five (my favorite film in the series) took this series to new heights and The Rock’s character, Luke Hobbs, was one of the catalysts for success. Pair The Rock up with Jason Statham, who plays Deckard Shaw, a former villain turned good guy, and you have a spinoff.
The trailer was released this morning.
Let’s. Fucking. Go.
Holy shit am I pumped. It’s been almost two years without any Fast and Furious movies. That’s a crime. This spinoff is exactly what the doctor ordered. The odd couple teaming up to kick ass. What more could you want? Oh that’s right, Sci-Fi super human robot Idris Elba is the bad guy.
This will be the best movie of 2019. Every other movie should just go home now.
