Huge news in the The Fast and Furious franchise. Idris Elba is joining the Fast family in the spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw, as the villain and I am ecstatic. When I think of one word to describe Idris Elba, the word “badass” comes to mind. From his days as Stringer Bell on The Wire to his roles in other hits such as the Thor series, Luther, and Prometheus, every performance seems to captivate my attention from start to finish. It looks like The Rock agrees.
I am very interested to see where this spinoff goes in terms of storyline and incorporating other elements in the Fast series. The Fate of the Furious was good, but it was a step back for me in terms of the previous three films. A lot of that had to do with the death of Paul Walker. That being said, maybe a spinoff is exactly what this franchise needs to rejuvenate itself. Keep in mind that a rejuvenation happened in Fast Five, which is my favorite in the series, with the introduction of The Rock’s character, Luke Hobbs. Fast Five, Fast Six, and Furious 7 brought the franchise to new heights. With The Rock, Jason Statham, and now Idris Elba joining the spinoff, expect a lot of action sequences and a lot of ass kicking. There is no doubt in my mind that this spinoff will not only work, but it will lead to more spinoffs in the future. Fast and Furious fans should be excited because the series is not going away anytime soon.
