Happy Opening Day!

Welcome back, baseball. You were missed.

Happy Opening Day! Everyone gets up for Opening Day. Out of the four major sports, baseball has the best opening day. Every team plays today and every fan has the same dream of making the World Series in October. I view the first day of baseball as the true first day of Spring unless you’re like me and live in New York. Then, the first day of Spring won’t come until May 1 because Winter is here. *Jon Snow voice*

Baseball brings a smile to my face and this year, I need it more than ever. I’m a Yankees fan so you can understand why I’m super excited. Last season was one of the most fun and memorable rides for the Yanks since 2009. The Baby Bombers brought the energy and life back to the Bronx. More importantly, they won games and made a run in the playoffs. I was lucky enough to attend the Wild Card Game vs. the Twins and Game 5 of the ALCS vs. the Astros. The energy during those two games was electric and it was the first time fans didn’t reminisce about the Old Yankee Stadium. This year brings even higher hopes as most fans expect to go right back to the ALCS and make the World Series for the first time in almost a decade.

It’s been such a disappointing sports year for New York teams. The Giants were a dumpster fire. The Jets won 5 games. The Knicks are a disaster. The Nets are horrific. The Rangers will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2009-2010. The Islanders might lose their best player in free agency. The Devils might make the playoffs, but they will have the privilege of losing to Tampa Bay or Boston. Even the Liberty were upset in the playoffs! The point is New York needs a W. We need something to cheer about these next couple of months. With Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, and the rest of the team, New Yorkers will be smiling all the way to October.

Put on your caps, get a dirty water dog from your favorite street vendor, and watch some baseball.

P.S. The Mets should compete, too. They’re not on the level of the Yankees this year, but I could see them battling for that second Wild Card spot. The city is better when the Yankees AND the Mets are good. Let’s go to work.
