Oscars 2018: The Shape of Water Wins Best Picture

Wow. I should not be that surprised, but I am shocked The Shape of Water just won Best Picture at the Oscar.s

I liked The Shape of Water when I first saw it. I appreciated the production design, the attention to detail, and the costumes. Guillermo del Toro is a genius and the acting was phenomenal especially Sally Hawkins. However, as I thought about it more and more, it started to lose its steam and I started to forget about it.

Here is a live reaction from myself and Lord Tree Sap.

This is what I wrote in my review.

“I will be honest. This movie is not for everyone. It’s a hard, hard sell. It’s visually appealing, but it’s a love story about a mute woman and an amphibian man. It might be hard to convince the average movie fan to go see this movie. I liked the movie, but I kept expecting more. The middle is where I had my problems. It just seemed to drag on a bit. I found myself struggling to pay attention because of the slowly paced movie.”

My vote would’ve been for Dunkirk, but I also would’ve been fine with Three Billboards or Get Out. I will definitely have more on this tomorrow in my full recap of the Oscars. Best / Worst Moments, Surprises, Snubs, etc. Tune in!
