Tackling The Sweet 16

Finally, after a LONG, LONG, LONG and lonely 4 days, the NCAA Tournament is back. I don’t know about you, but I am absolutely ecstatic that I get to just throw money away and watch it burn in flames on Venmo as I continue to lose games. It’s been such a thrill especially if you have had money on the games. Last second spreads and heartbreak galore. Even if you don’t have money, these games have been pretty exciting all around. Myself and LTS are going to give it a go and see if we can make some money tonight.

#7 Michigan -1 vs. #3 Oregon

DG: Oregon +1

The team of destiny has made it to weekend #2. From the plane crash to now, Michigan truly is the team of destiny. That being said, they haven’t been lucky. They’ve been good. Senior Derrick Walton Jr. is doing his best Kemba Walker and Shabazz Napier impersonation. The Wolverines look like a team possessed and Jon Beilein has made improable runs before (I’m looking at you Kevin “PANOBSCOTT” Pitssnogle). I think Michigan can’t be stopped and will win tonight…

Which is exactly why I’m betting on Oregon to win. Reverse jinx the shit out of it. Plus, Dillon Brooks and Tyler Dorsey can actually will the Ducks to victory. QUACK QUACK QUACK MR. DUCKSWORTH!

LTS: Michigan -1

I’ve been on Michigan as a team of destiny since the Big 10 tournament and I won’t stop now. After knocking off Louisville at their own game, I’m confident the Wolverines can oust the Ducks playing their best ball of the year, especially without Chris Boucher anchoring the Oregon defense. Walton powers Michigan in a tightly contested match up to the Elite 8.

#4 West Virginia vs. #1 Gonzaga -3

DG: Gonzaga -3

I BELONGGGGGGGGGGGGGG WEST VIRGINIA!!!!!! I love Press Virginia. Give me a team that wrecks havoc on the opposition for 40 minutes every game. It’s nonstop. Huggie Bear has done a tremendous job at WVU and is looking to their first Elite 8 since 2010. That being said, either Mark Few or Sean Miller of Arizona are coming out of this bracket. No ifs, ands, or buts. One of those coaches is getting over the hump and to the Final 4. Plus, Gonzaga is legit at every position. I love Karnowski down low, but Gonzaga needs to lean on Nigel Williams-Goss to handle the press and control the ball. If they do that, the Zags are going to win.

LTS: Gonzaga -3

Honestly in my bracket I had Notre Dame taking out the Zags as I didn’t know if I could trust them. I’m going to take a stab on them here, only turning the ball over 11 times a game. I believe they will fare way better against the press than the Fighting Irish did. If not tonight, when for Gonzaga?

#4 Purdue vs. Kansas -5

DG: Bet the house on Kansas -5

Absolutely no disrespect to Purdue. You’ve had a great year. I didn’t think you’d make it here. Swanigan is the perfect monster to beat the Jayhawks, a team that lacks a true post presence. If he stays on the floor, Purdue has a chance. Once again, no disrespect, but I think Kansas wins easily in double digits. They are legit. I’m not a Bill Self believer in the tournament, but this team is very good. Frank Mason Jr will do his thing, but it’s Josh Jackson that sets this team over the top.

LTS: Purdue covers, Kansas wins

Purdue actually matches up well with Kansas because of the size and ability of Haas and Swanigan underneath. The Jayhawks are really talented and are the most consistent team in the nation. I’m riding with my championship pick to finish the job because of their advantages in the backcourt and the two-way NBA talent Josh Jackson on the wing. This game will be tighter than most expect.

#11 Xavier vs. #2 Arizona -7.5

DG: X-men cover, Arizona wins

How about the X-men being the only double digit seed to make it to the second weekend? That deserves a round of applause there because I have picked them to lose twice already. Xavier is that team that’s just always there at the end. They’ve been that way ever since the days of David West. That being said, Im confident it’s going to be the Zags vs. Zona in the Elite 8 so that’s the way I’m going. Zona is always tough and I love Mini Kristaps Porzingis aka Lauri Markkanen. Xavier will cover, the but cats will move on.

LTS: Arizona -7.5

Xavier made a huge statement putting the tournament on notice after the thrashing of a talented Florida State team. Trevon Bluiett is playing as well as anyone in the country and will be a load for Zona to slow down. I just have a feeling it could be the Wildcats’ year and things are setting up nicely. Too much Trier and Markannen down low. Cats win.
